Motus Dance Theatre is Indy's groundbreaking and newest modern dance company. Created in the fall of 2003, Motus Dance Theatre is dedicated to assisting its dancers in the study of their craft, developing and performing new choreography and strengthening the Indianapolis arts community through collaborations with artists in other fields. A small company, Motus Dance Theatre seeks to provide a unique cultural experience for its audience through inventive works of dance and music coupled with theatrical and visual arts collaborations.
Motus debuted with its first performance, Ignitio, in December 2003 at
In 2006, Motus performed 15 original works by local choreographers. The company performed with Urban Garden Performing Arts at the Harrison Centre for the Arts and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Red Tape was performed as part of the 2006 Indy Fringe Festival. Unwrapped, a performance inspired by holiday stories from the community, took place in December at
In 2008, we celebrated five years of Motus Dance Theatre with the performance of Rear View Mirrow in March. This production included repertoire from past productions such as Ignitio, Viae and Confessions. In the summer, Wicked Dreams, Pleasant Nightmares premiered at the American Cabaret Theatre during the IndyFringe Festival.
While there are other modern dance companies in
Motus Core Artists include founder Katie Kasper, Katie Bacone, Heidi Keller-Phillips, Christina Maley, Megan Quiring, Debra Silveus, and Vanessa Stowers-Flora. Former Core Artist, Emily Bhatti, has begun a new career in California and we thank her for her contributions to Motus.

Motus Dance Theatre was incorporated in July 2004 and is a certified 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Motus extends its appreciation to its board of directors: Carol Baker, Trisha Borowicz, Lisa Brown, Vanessa Stowers-Flora, Beth Hunt, Paul Kasper, Scott Semester, Debra Silveus and Kari Strolberg.
